What it is
Blizzard dropped the "2" in February 2026 and restarted its season count, alongside a year-long story arc and a wave of new heroes. Underneath, it's still the same 5v5 hero shooter: tank, damage and support roles, objective-based maps, and heroes whose abilities combine in satisfying ways. Stadium, added in 2025, is a best-of-seven mode where you upgrade your hero between rounds. It's a good place for players who like planning.
The first evening
Try one hero from each role in Quick Play before settling on one. Support heroes teach you how the game flows, and tanks teach you about space. The game's colour, voice lines and clear visual design help a lot. It's one of the most readable shooters out there, with detailed accessibility options and colour-blind filters.
What you'll pay for
- Heroes are free to everyone. New heroes are available straight away and aren't locked behind the pass.
- Premium battle pass for Overwatch Coins, with cosmetics and Mythic Prisms, which are used to buy the top-tier Mythic skins.
- The shop sells bundles and individual items at clearly shown Coin prices. Random boxes came back in 2025 as free unlocks from play only. You can't buy them.

Who it suits
Team players who like a clear role and a fast, colourful game with personality. It suits you less if you don't like relying on four teammates. When a team doesn't work together, Overwatch can be frustrating.
